46 sixth grade girls and 7 faculty members attended our 4 week workshop at Lift For Life Academy. The “Let’s Talk Puberty, What Pre-Teen Girls Should Know” workshop was so popular, we will be hosting 2 follow-up workshops to these young women! Special thank you to Susan Kelter, Life for Life’s Community Relations and Volunteer Coordinator, who worked closely with GITK staff to deliver much needed programming to these young ladies.

Compton Drew

Girls in the Know speakers delivered our four program sessions in a 1 evening format to 80 six-eighth grade girls to accommodate their annual Girls Night Out and Lock In! Compton-Drew is a St Louis City Public Magnet School serving girls in 6-8th from at-risk and economically challenged communities.

“The Compton-Drew ILC Middle school girls appreciate Girls in the Know for providing the materials and presenters for the empowerment workshop series. The girls really enjoyed the program because at the end they felt truly empowered. It’s programs like these that make girls feel special as well as appreciated. From some of the girls perspectives, discussing meanness within the ‘girl world’ touched on some of the experiences and emotions in which they have encountered and it was nice to know that they were not alone! They are already looking forward to Girls Night Out and Lock In 2014! Thanks!” – Tabatha White AVID Coordinator/Athletic Director/School Counselor Compton-Drew ILC Middle School

Humboldt

Thanks to the generosity of our staff and speakers, Girls in the Know hosted a 2 week-2 session / week format delivering programming to 30 third-fifth grade young ladies, ranging in age from 9-13. Humboldt’s Principal, Jacqueline Russel and Counselor, Ronda Goolsby shared concerns their students were challenged with including low self esteem and body image, struggles with grief & loss, seeking attention from boys and adults in unhealthy ways, difficulty forgiving and letting go of anger, and bullying. Our programming delivered the knowledge and empowerment these girls were seeking.

“Girls in the Know was an AMAZING EXPERIENCE for all of our girls!!! The speakers were well versed in the topics and both sessions were relevant! The students were excited about the sessions and are looking forward to participating again! The positive attitude of the organization representatives was a definite plus!! They are great advocates for the kids and represent their organization well! We plan on a partnership with GITK for years and years to come!” – Ronda Goolsby, Counselor at Humboldt Academy of Higher Learning
