Fear. Doubt. Uncertainty. Since I gave birth to my first daughter in 1998 these feelings were always on my mind throughout my childrens’ first years. The world I grew up in was very different from the world that my daughters would grow up in. Cell phones, the internet, social media are relatively new technologies that have contributed to this fast-paced world which is not only hard to keep up with physically, but emotionally as well. As adolescence approached, I felt that it was my responsibility as a mother and parent to make sure that I did everything in my power to educate my daughters about life’s most important topics. My hope was that they would be better equipped to navigate their way through their teen years and into adulthood. Fact based information communicated by professionals covering the most important topics relating to teenage girls was my way to accomplish this and resulted in the birth of Girls In The Know in July 2009.
I am grateful to those who have volunteered, supported and provided funding for GITK over the years. Girls in the Know’s Outreach Programs and Scholarship Fund would not be possible without YOU…I want to extend sincere thanks for the generous and continued support of all of our donors.
I am proud that we have served over 15,000 girls alongside their caregivers, in both Chicago and St. Louis and my hope is to continue to grow our programs throughout the country.
Please consider supporting our organization and helping us grow. We are raising awareness through the month of November, our month of gratitude, culminating on Giving Tuesday, 11/29. Our hope is to bring attention to Girls in the Know so that young girls today have the opportunity to become strong, empowered leaders tomorrow.
